Oct. 21-22, Trento and Lake Garda

 Desenzano Del Garda

Well, it had to happen. Our first day of real rain was today. It wasn’t awful, and if it was going to rain, our schedule today was the right one for that to happen. We visited this small town on our way to Trento, saw some of the local sights, walk through the local market day, and pretty much survive the rain. I’m sure that on a beautiful day this village on the shores of Lake Garda, the largest in Italy, is a terrific spot to visit. I’d like to come back here on such a day.

The Castle

We stopped for an olive oil tour, learned all there is to know about olive oil, and had a quick lunch on site

Orientation walk, our first look

Full tour tomorrow including ancient Roman ruins and the castle.

Dinner in Trento

We had an included dinner tonight in a small restaurant in an alley just a block from our hotel. A lady and her granddaughter provided us with a perfect-size delicious Italian meal.

Primo: A wonderful veggie quiche
with a sauce made with a local cheese

Secondo: A terrific lasagna with meat sauce

Dulce: A yummy tiramasu-like cake

BRAVA!!!!

BONNE NOTTE, ALL

Wednesday, October 22

No more rain, but overcast and a little chilly. Our morning was taken up by a two hour walking tour with a local guide. It concentrated on the local castle, a Piazza or two, and the beautiful Romanesque cathedral.

The Piazzas

The Main/Central Piazza

The Cathedral
The Cathedral was designed to have
a second bell tower, but funds were short and they went Baroque.

This is a very cool three- dimensional map of the city

We also explored some ancient underground Roman ruins (first century BC) discovered when the local opera house was being remodeled.

WAY TOO MUCH FOOD!
Brought takeaway back for Tomasso!

Domani:
Mountain hiking (in the rain?), and on to
